UH11 | CLASS 1

The eleventh generation Formula Student car from the UH Racing stable was the team’s second car powered by the powerful Yamaha R6 engine. Where UH10 suffered from a relatively snug cockpit area, UH11 was designed with the proposed new rules for the 2009 season where F1 style cockpit templates would be used to ensure a minimum cockpit opening size. With the team also developing a zero emission race car, the team’s attention turned to using more environmentally friendly material for bodywork. Carbon fibre bodywork was replaced with a revolutionary 100% PP thermoplastic composite with excellent impact resistance and stiffness as well as a lightweight composition known as PURE. The material was fully recyclable and safer to handle than glass-filled composites. At FS UK the team were featuring well in both static and dynamic events until an oil leak resulted in the team being disqualified from the Endurance event at the mid way stage. Determined to show what the team could really achieve the team prepared themselves for the team’s first trip to the Formula Student Germany competition. The teams hard efforts were rewarded with a superb 5 th place overall! Team List: Ian Burgess (Team Captain), James Major (Crash Attenuator), Matt Tomalin (Chassis), Rob Meredith (Steering), Chris Slevin (Packaging), Mark Smith (Brakes), Jamie Muir (Exhaust), Richard Jones (Driver Controls), Peter Turner(Pedal Box), Matt Peacey (Electronics), Bradley Macartney (Aerodynamics), Ryan Howell (Suspension), Chris Hough (Suspension)
