UH14 | Class 1

UH14 has been the most technologically advanced Formula Student car the team have yet produced. Based around a steel tubular space frame chassis powered by a fuel injected Yamaha R6 engine, the team incorporated an innovative remote adjustable damper system, a PI Delta data logger and our own telemetry system utilising the mobile phone network enabling the team to monitor live data. The team made further refinements to all vehicle areas, one highlight was our own designed limited slip differential which was smaller, lighter and more neatly integrated in to the drivetrain than other commercially available differentials. The team managed to surpass their own high build quality with an immaculately prepared car. The bodywork was made from moulded carbon fibre to give both an attractive and light weight finish. The finished car weighed in at an impressive 201KG at FS UK.

At Formula Student UK, the team were rewarded with 1^st place in Business, and continued to place strongly in the remaining events leading to a terrific 3^rd place overall and top UK team for the second year running. With a strong performance in the UK, the team entered FS Germany in confident mood. The team duly placed 2^nd overall in Business and Cost and placed 4^th overall in Design, making the Design finals for the first time. Dynamically the team were caught out by the late rain in the autocross event which cost the team valuable points, however a strong endurance finish saw the team place 7^th overall, and top UK team two events in a row. With some of the UH14 team returning for the 2011-12 season, the team have very high hopes for UH15… watch this space!!

MEET THE UH RACING TEAM 2011 – UH14

FullTeamPhoto For the 2011 season, UH Racing shall be focusing on a single Formula Car to compete in the 2011 Formula Student and Formula Student Germany competitions. The team have elected to compete in the combustion class whilst ‘recharging’ (excuse the pun!) our batteries before entering FS / FSG in 2012. Our team leader for this year is Clare Cletheroe. Clare is no stranger to FS having been involved with UH Racing’s FS activities since her first year at UH. With the team entering a single class this year, the final year MEng/MSc students have merged with level 4 BEng/BSc students. The team will draw on the extra personal to further develop our combustion powered car to new levels in a bid for UH Racing to win Formula Student outright.
